The Victorians may have attempted to show the world they were upright, strict and full of virtue but much of this thinking has been subverted by their erotic and pornographic writing. In our first story, The Romance of Violette, Violette is a sweet, beautiful and innocent 15 year old girl who is seduced by the protagonist, Christian, a 30 year old man who relates how trusting and willing she was. Violette wishes to pursue a career on the stage and needs tuition paid for as well as her board and lodging and falls in love with Christian who provides both. A Countess had also taken a liking to Violette and so began a menage a trois. The Countess encounters another woman with whom she begins a passionate lesbian affair that is recounted in detail. This neatly sets up our second story Sweet Seventeen: the True Story of a Daughter's Awful Whipping and its Delightful if Direful Consequence which explores the ultimate taboo; incest. It details a father's seduction of his young seventeen year old daughter who he deflowers after a whipping. She enjoys the delights of both flagellation and her Father, as it seems most Victorian children do in these erotic happenings. Together they are both explicit and extraordinary in the detailing of sexual conduct, making them 'not to be missed' erotic reads.
